Footwear Modifications
Assisting Both Fit And Function
-
Shoe Lifts
When a leg length discrepancy exists, walking can become both painful and tiring. To provide even pressure distribution, we can add external lifts to your footwear so you feel both balanced and secure. We commonly see differences in leg lengsths due to previous injury, hip surgery, or congenital in nature.
-
Bunion Stretch
If a bunion is causing discomfort, we can spot stretch your shoe to alleviate pressure. This also works well for those dealing with painful pressure from hammer toes.
How Do We Add A Shoe Lift?
- A prescription is likely required for insurance reimbursement purposes. Please check with your benefit plan. It should indicate the required height.
- We take both a supine measurement, followed by a standing trial. We place various heights under the shorter leg to determine what feels good.
- The sole is cut off the shoe, with the required height glued to the bottom. We then shape the toe rocker if necessary.
- The sole is then glued back on, ready for you to wear!
